General Sites

Ours is not the first attempt to gather information about capacity building in a single site.  Below is a list of other sites that each cover a broad range of capacity building topics, often with other materials as well.

Michigan Nonprofit Association:  The Michigan Nonprofit Association is a statewide organization “focused on increasing the capacity of Michigan’s nonprofits to serve, strengthen and transform communities.”  They have offices in Lansing and Detroit.  Their resource center has information in many areas related to capacity building, including a search mechanism for finding consultants in a wide array of areas.  The rest of their site also has useful information, including a list of events statewide such as workshops on topics of interest to nonprofit organizations.

Free Management Library:  This “library” includes a large number of resources related to both for-profit and nonprofit organizations.  Because many topics apply to both, it is a rich source of materials.

Nonprofit and Philanthropy Good Practice:  (Johnson Center, Grand Valley State University)  A general site with links to resources in the core areas of capacity building.  (suggested by Holly Madill)

Foundation Center:  This site has a very broad array of resources.  The link will take you to the knowledge base where you will find online materials, but to get a broader view of the resources they offer you can look at their overview for new users.

NorthSky Nonprofit Network:  “NorthSky Nonprofit Network is a nonprofit management support program of Rotary Charities of Traverse City that assists northern Michigan nonprofit organizations in strengthening their capabilities through capacity building and sustainability support.”  Their site has useful links to resources in many different areas.  (suggested by Holly Madill)

National Council of Nonprofit: This site has an excellent set of resources.
